About of Sindh prisons/jail

 

Sindh prisons & corrections service (spcs) has 24 prisons across the province. The total population is about 20000 whereas the authorized capacity is 13538. At the time of independence of Pakistan, there were only four prisons in the province. However, after independence, twenty new prisons have been constructed in Sindh in 1947. Sindh prisons & corrections service (spcs) is under the umbrella of the home department, government of Sindh. Inspector general of prisons Sindh is the head of spcs and the d.i.g prisons are regional heads of respective regions. There is also a training institute of Sindh prisons & cf at Sindh prisons staff training institute Nara Hyderabad. Spcs works following Sindh prisons & corrections service act & rules 2019. The inspector-general of prisons & corrections service Sindh, deputy inspector general of prisons, and superintendent of prisons are custodians of the prisoners. They are responsible for the safe custody of the security of the prisoners, providing living, health facilities, court production, interview, reformation etc.
